Kepa Junkera ('Galiza')

Kepa Junquera, composer, producer and musician, was born in Bilbao in 1965 and spent his childhood and youth in the neighborhood of Recalde, which undoubtedly marked his character. His first contact with music was through his "aitite" (maternal grandfather) who in old romerías (religious festivities), accompanied his daughter, Kepa's mothe, with the tambourine, as she was taking her first dance steps as Txilibrin's partner.

Ever since, Kepa Junquera, self taught, restless and courageous, has begun a long journey through the world of traditional music, creating a personal style and opening up his own personal path that has led him to become one of the most international musicians of Euskadi.

His discography have revolutionized musical worlds such as trikitixa and even traditional music. The way he improvises and his different mergers of styles have enriched the Basque music scene. Although his works are deeply rooted in tradition, Kepa has created a music without borders mixed with the aromas, colors and rhythms from other places and cultures, open to the world without complexes, especially with respect and with the enthusiasm and curiosity of anyone who loves what he does.
