Aprendiz

Aprendiz (Nicolás Hermida López, 2002) is a Galician artist from the town of Lalín in the province of Pontevedra. Although in a more artisanal way, his style can be placed within the new Galician urban scene. "Campo" (the name of the hamlet where he grew up) is the title of his debut album. It is composed of 12 tracks and its central themes are the reivindication of rural inland Galicia and of the rural working woman.

"Campo" is an album sown and harvested in Donsión. In it I reflect on family, on home, on the rural world and on the land, and I return to it, now grown up, to thank the sweat of those who for so many years kept the stove warm and the broth simmering on top.

"Campo" is an album of music made slowly and with care. It is the (re)conciliation of a child who had always been connected to his roots without even knowing it. The place where I connect with the songs with which my grandmother used to wake us up on Saturday mornings.

Because in "Campo" there are memories that have a smell, that are built and layered one upon another, like sacks of manure, constructing a whole emotional network of experiences and values. A communion made possible by becoming aware of the greatness of the most everyday things that can be lived in a small house in the interior of Galicia.

Thus, costumbrismo, the popular voice of the silent majority, and a thousand influences converge—fruit of a deep study of the Galician woman, embodied in the figures of my mother and my grandmother.
