Duister, the project of Carlos Maquieira, a musician from Noia, is a rare occurrence on the Galician music scene, where there is very little representation of ambient music. We should not however remark only on the exceptional nature of its existence. Even though Duister's songs have a undebatable air of the bands from Kranky records, they also have sufficient value and sensibility to stand out on their own ground: that of a minimalist combination of ambient field recordings and experimentation in sound, which mix the most genuine "morriña" (that special Galician blend of melancholy homesickness), with the sound of Stars of the Lid and the sensibility of Eno in "Ambient 1: Music for Airports" (Editions EG, 1978). On his Bandcamp site the track "Sinfonía monótona baixo a choiva" stands out; the soundtrack to dawn, unmissable for all those who enjoyed the classic "And Their Refinement of the Decline" (Kranky, 2007).
